WASHINGTON, 10 March 2008. Experts at Aviation Week and Space Technology magazine are sponsoring a Webinar at 11 a.m. eastern time March 13 entitled "The Aviation Job Market: How to Find -- and Keep -- the Right People."

The Webinar is in response to emerging defense and aerospace business concerns where employment and stock prices plummet, underscoring fears in the aviation sector that the good times are coming to an end, the Webinar's sponsors, Aviation Today, the Website of Aviation Week magazine.

Last week, the Labor Department estimated that the nation lost 63,000 jobs in February, the second consecutive monthly decline. The jobs report was so bleak, most economists now admit that the nation is in recession.

Meanwhile, paradoxically, aviation companies in all niches continue to report a chronic inability to recruit, train and retain sufficiently skilled workers. The result of these interrelated trends is uncertainty in the aviation job market.

Webinar speakers include Alison Mayo, partner relationship manager, JobTarget; Ramon Lopez, editor-in-chief, Air Safety Week; and Joy Finnegan, editor-in-chief, Aviation Maintenance magazine. The speakers will address how aviation businesses can win the fierce competition for talented employees.

"Jobs for crucial positions, such as pilot, mechanic and engineer, go begging or are plagued by high turnover," says webinar moderator John Persinos, publisher and editorial director of Aviation Today. "At the same time, new anxiety about the economy is creating a self-perpetuating spiral of falling stock prices, tight credit and rising unemployment."

This webinar will cover how operators can get the men and women they need to fly their aircraft; how companies can compete for the best engineering talent; how companies can find skilled mechanics; how online job boards can assist human resources managers; and the ramifications for air safety of this workplace turmoil.
