CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, 13 June 2008.Vetronics designers from BAE Systems needed displays for manned ground vehicles that will be part of the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) program. They found their solution from Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Common Crew Station Display will serve as the primary information flat screen monitor for the family of combat vehicles fielded as part of FCS. The initial contract is worth $8 million.

The Common Crew Station Display is a rugged 17-inch diagonal high-resolution flat panel monitor capable of showing maps, video and other information. A touch screen and optional bezel buttons facilitate user input and control.

FCS is a joint networked family of manned and unmanned ground and air platforms and sensors that enables ground combat forces to conduct their missions safely and more effectively. Boeing and partner Science Applications International function as the Lead Systems Integrator (LSI) for the program, managing a best-of-industry team of more than 500 partners and suppliers.

"Our ability to leverage our advanced displays technology to ground vehicles in a cost-manner was a key to winning this contract," says Bruce King, vice president and general manager of Surface Solutions for Rockwell Collins. "These displays will provide our soldiers with enhanced situational awareness that will increase safety and effectiveness."
