ROCHESTER, N.Y., 8 Feb. 2008. Navitar Inc., an optics and assemblies manufacturer in Rochester, N.Y., is acquiring Special Optics Inc. in Wharton, N.J., which manufactures optical assemblies for long-range surveillance, laser scanning, laser projection, ultraviolet, visible, and infrared applications.
Special Optics complements Navitar's lens-manufacturing capabilities, and brings Navitar rapid design and prototype capability for military contractors and commercial companies seeking to outsource optics-based assemblies, says Navitar Co-Presidents Jeremy and Julian Goldstein.
"With the design and prototyping strengths of Special Optics combined with the financial strength and production capabilities of Navitar, we can now accommodate anything from custom optical assemblies used in long distance surveillance or unmanned aerial vehicles to over 1,000 units per year for precision lenses used in new biomedical applications," says Special Optics President David Manzi.
