MD Helicopters to provide El Salvador Air Force with 3 MD 500Es

MESA, Ariz., 5 April 2012. The Salvadorian Air Force (FAS) has selected MD Helicopters to provide three MD 500E single engine turbine helicopters. MD received a contract valued at $7 million on December 9, 2011 from the U.S. Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala.

MESA, Ariz., 5 April 2012. The Salvadorian Air Force (FAS) has selected MD Helicopters to provide three MD 500E single engine turbine helicopters. MD received a contract valued at $7 million on December 9, 2011 from the U.S. Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala. The contract is a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contract managed by the U.S. Army Non Standard Rotary Wing Aircraft (NSRWA) Project Office for the FAS.

The first aircraft are scheduled to be delivered during the third quarter of 2012. The contract includes provisions for training, spares, ground support equipment and special tools. The aircraft will be used primarily in a utility mission role.

The FAS currently operates four MD 500Es. The 500E is a turbine powered, all-purpose helicopter.
