Sofradir completes acquisition of Electrophysics; changes name to Sofradir EC

FAIRFIELD, N.J., 18 Jan. 2009. Sofradir, an infrared sensor designer in Grenoble, France, has finished its acquisition of infrared camera manufacturer Electrophysics in Fairfield, N.J., and has change the name of the New Jersey operation to Sofradir Engineered Components (Sofradir EC).

FAIRFIELD, N.J., 18 Jan. 2009.Sofradir, an infrared sensor designer in Grenoble, France, has finished its acquisition of infrared camera manufacturer Electrophysics in Fairfield, N.J., and has change the name of the New Jersey operation to Sofradir Engineered Components (Sofradir EC).

Sofradir EC will continue developing and supplying infrared equipment like thermography equipment and night vision modules for low-light cameras for military, public safety, security,, scientific, and industrial applications.

"Sofradir EC will help our company meet the specific needs of North American customers of cooled and uncooled IR detectors," says Philippe Bensussan, chairman of Sofradir EC. The estimated size of the North American market for infrared detectors is $1 billion, company officials say.

Sofradir specializes in IR detectors for military, space, and industrial applications, while Electrophysics specialized in advanced high performance infrared cameras, portable thermography systems and advanced night vision imaging.
