ISI Expands RUNNER Satellite Capabilities with World-First 24/7 Dynamic Movement Detection, Including Nighttime Tracking

Unique onboard AI-powered processing delivers real-time dynamic intelligence from orbit, day and night, across  diverse operational environments

May 26, 2026, Israel – ImageSat International (TASE: ISI), a global leader in space-based intelligence solutions, today announced a major expansion of its RUNNER satellite capabilities with the introduction of continuous, real-time movement detection and analysis from orbit, operating across all hours of the day and night.

The new capability enables defense and intelligence organizations to receive dynamic, real-time intelligence on moving objects throughout the full operational cycle, including during nighttime conditions, representing a first-of-its-kind advancement in persistent space-based surveillance.

Powered by advanced onboard AI and embedded processing, RUNNER autonomously detects, classifies, and characterizes movement patterns directly in orbit, identifying vehicles, mobile targets, and other moving objects even across vast operational areas and dense traffic environments, including city-scale coverage.

A key differentiator of the new capability is RUNNER’s ability to maintain this dynamic movement tracking during nighttime operations, overcoming one of the most persistent limitations in space-based optical intelligence collection.

This breakthrough is enabled by a novel optical system design that allows the satellite to capture sufficient photon data even under low-light nighttime conditions.

Combined with advanced algorithms and AI-driven processing, this enables reliable movement detection and analysis from video captured at night, a capability not previously achievable at this scale from orbit.

Leveraging advanced onboard processing, RUNNER conducts automated image exploitation directly in orbit, converting raw visual data into mission-ready intelligence products onboard the satellite itself. By transmitting only processed intelligence outputs to the user, the architecture enables rapid dissemination, efficient bandwidth utilization, and near-real-time delivery of actionable operational insight.

“RUNNER is redefining the role of satellites in operational intelligence,” said Noam Segal, CEO of ISI. “The ability to detect and analyze movement persistently from orbit, across day and night, and deliver actionable intelligence in real time, fundamentally changes what defense and intelligence organizations can expect from space-based assets.”

RUNNER’s expanded dynamic intelligence capability further strengthens ISI’s position at the forefront of next-generation space-based intelligence and AI-enabled satellite operations.
