DDCI's Safety-Critical, DO-178 Deos RTOS Available for Abaco Systems' Ruggedized SBC314 VPX CPU Board
DDC-I, a leading supplier of software and professional services for mission- and safety critical applications and Abaco Systems, a global leader in open architecture computing and electronic systems for aerospace, defense and industrial applications, today announced the availability of its Deos™ DO-178 real-time operating system (RTOS) for Abaco Systems’ rugged SBC314 3U VPX single board computer. The integrated multicore platform greatly accelerates the development, certification and deployment of high-performance, safety-critical avionics applications.
“Abaco’s SBC314 single board computers running the Deos RTOS provide a low risk and cost effective COTS DO-178C certifiable software solution for safety-critical avionics systems,” said Greg Rose, vice president of marketing and product management at DDC-I. “The SBC314’s high-performance multi-core processing, versatile I/O, and flexible mezzanine expansion capability make it an ideal platform for rapidly developing, and deploying ruggedized Deos-based avionics applications requiring the highest level of safety criticality in the harshest operating environments.”
“Safety certification is a significant challenge for many of our customers, and Abaco helps streamline that process by providing the artifacts necessary to achieve DAL A DO-254 hardware certification,” said Peter Thompson, vice president, product management at Abaco Systems. “The combination of Abaco’s SBC314 with DDC-I’s Deos enables our customers to accelerate development and certification and get their solutions to deployment faster with less risk and lower cost.”
The SBC314 is a rugged, 3U VPX single board computer with XMC/PMC mezzanine expansion. Based on a dual-threaded, four core, AltiVec-equipped T2081 processor running at speeds up to1.4-GHz, the Level 1-5 air/conduction cooled CPU board provides up to 4Gbytes of DDR3L memory and features versatile network and I/O options, including Gigabit Ethernet, GPIO, SATA, PCIe, and USB. For low power applications, the SBC314 is also available with a T1042 processor, which consumes less than 7.5W.
Deos is a field proven, certifiable, safety-critical, avionics RTOS that is used to host a multitude of flight critical functions, such as air data computers, air data inertial reference units, cockpit video, displays and flight instrumentation, flight management systems, engine management, and many more. Built from the ground up for safety-critical applications, Deos is the first partitioned DO-178C multicore COTS RTOS for processors with verification evidence to Design Assurance Level A.
Deos features a unique modular design with time and space partitioning, providing the easiest, lowest cost path to DO-178C DAL A certification, the highest level of safety criticality. DDC-I’s SafeMC™ technology extends DDC-I’ s advanced time and space partitioning capabilities to multiple cores, enabling developers of safety-critical systems to achieve best in class multicore performance without compromising safety-critical task response and guaranteed execution times.
