New High Performance Single Board Computer from Abaco Systems Delivers Enhanced Security Support for Sensitive, Mission-Critical Applications

Jan. 15, 2016

HUNTSVILLE, AL.— JANUARY 5, 2016—Abaco Systems  today announced the SBC347D rugged 3U VPX single board computer.  Featuring the Intel® Xeon® Processor D-1500 Family, the SBC347D will use versions of the processor that offer support for up to 16 cores (which Intel will make available in the first quarter of 2016). The SBC347D is specifically designed for demanding high performance embedded computing (HPEC) military/aerospace applications such as command and control, ISR, signal processing, radar/sonar and electronic warfare.

The higher level of integration of the Intel® Xeon® Processor D-1500 Family provides additional board real estate, enabling the SBC347D to support twice as much memory as the SBC347A with its Intel Core™ i7 processor. The SBC347D features up to 32GBytes of DDR4 ECC memory, operating at up to 2.0 MHZ, enabling superior memory performance; 32 GBytes NAND Flash (SSD), 32 MBytes BIOS Flash and 16 MBytes BIOS backup Flash memory are also provided.

Of particular note is the provision made by the SBC347D – like the SBC328 - to enable customers to implement their security and information assurance strategies. This is achieved via a secure FPGA solution that offers inherent reliability and security features such as protection against differential power analysis (DPA) attacks and against single event upsets (SEU) as well as a range of tamper detect, encryption and zeroisation features which can be implemented by the user.

Additional security provision is offered in line with that provided by previous generation Abaco Systems SBCs in the form of Intel® Trusted Execution Technology which is also implemented on the SBC347D: it is planned that revision 2.0 of TPM will be supported.

The SBC347D is designed to offer maximum PCIe® bandwidth to the back-plane with a total of 20 PCIe lanes (x4 and x16 ports) across the P1 and P2 connectors. The x16 link is ideal for connection to ultra-high performance GPGPU modules such as the GRA112 and GRA113.

In line with Abaco’s strategy of maximizing the long term value of customer investments, existing SBC34X systems can be easily upgraded via pin-out options that allow for increased performance with minimal expense and disruption.

“3U VPX is rapidly becoming the standard for today’s advanced military/aerospace programs, and the SBC347D is the third 3U VPX SBC featuring the latest Intel technology that Abaco Systems has introduced in the past six months, allowing us to offer our customers unrivaled choice in terms of price/performance and functionality,” said Richard Kirk, Director of Core Computing at Abaco Systems. “Whatever the application, Abaco almost certainly has an appropriate 3U VPX solution.”

The SBC347D benefits from its support for Abaco’s AXIS Advanced Multiprocessor Integrated Software development environment which enables the rapid creation and testing of sophisticated HPEC applications, reducing risk, cost and time-to-market. It is also backed by Abaco’s market-leading programs that are designed to provide the long term support necessary for multi-year – multi-decade – deployed programs.

Available in a range of air- and conduction cooled build levels with extended temperature capability, the SBC347D is designed to meet the requirements of a wide range of applications from industrial through to fully rugged defense and aerospace programs. A rich software choice is planned for the SBC347D, including chain of trust for secure booting; Open Linux® (Fedora), Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VxWorks® 7 including virtualization profile, Windows® 10; comprehensive Deployed Test Software: FSP* enabled BIT (PBIT function), and BCS (CBIT and IBIT function); P2P (PCI Express® Peer-to-Peer protocol) for Linux, and sanitization support.
