DRS acquires European rugged computer supplier

Leaders of the DRS Inc. Rugged Systems (Europe) unit in Farnham, England, are acquiring European Data Systems Ltd. of Chippenham, England. European Data, which specializes in military rugged computers and peripherals for battlefield digitization, supplies the British Royal Army, Royal Air Force, and Royal Navy. Terms of the cash purchase were not disclosed. DRS officials say the addition of European Data to their company strengthens DRS as a supplier of rugged, portable, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) computers for international defense applications.
