Boeing buys four MediaHawk video servers for Apache Longbow training

Engineers at the Boeing Co. in Seattle needed video servers for digital debrief and analysis systems for the United Kingdom`s WAH-64 Apache Longbow attack helicopter training program.

Four MediaHawk video servers from Concurrent Computer Corp. in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., met their needs.

"This is a significant project for us," says Mike McGaugh, program manager for the WAH-64 Apache Longbow training program at Boeing. "The WAH-64 Apache is one of the most technologically advanced combat helicopters in production today, and as such it requires highly-trained flight crews to fully exploit its capabilities. Therefore, we were extremely selective in the choice of a training system to use in conjunction with our simulation facilities. Concurrent`s 12-channel debrief system allows us to provide effective training while promoting efficient use of simulator resources."

The MediaHawk debrief system can simultaneously record the actions of one crew in a simulator while playing back the events of a previous session for a second crew. With the MediaHawk, instructors can mark certain events with hand-held controllers and play back those events in any sequence desired. These debrief systems can accommodate multiple channels, or streams, each of which is completely independent and interactive. Users are able to select, play, stop, and pause on each digital video stream independently with prompt and predictable response times. The system records cockpit video, aircraft multi-function display video, sensor video, and several audio channels. — J.M.
