QNX introduces embedded JAVA tool

Leaders of QNX Software Systems Ltd. in Kanata, Ontario, are demonstrating what they call "a virtual-machine solution with a difference" - the Hewlett Packard ChaiVM running on the QNX/Neutrino real time operating system. HP engineers designed the ChaiVM virtual machine software specifically for embedded devices. ChaiVM is small, fast, embeddable in read-only memory, and has features to keep memory use to a minimum, company officials say. The combination of QNX/Neutrino with ChaiVM "means manufacturers can now embed Java-compatible applications into an even broader range of mission-critical devices, from medical instruments to network routers," says HP General Manager Jim Bell.
