Officials at US Airways Flight Training Department in Arlington, Va., Needed a low-cost training simulation for their simulation development standard for pilot training.

They found their answer with Rapid SIMULATION 4 from Emultek in Herndon, Va.

Rapid SIMULATION helping experts to develop the new pilot ground training courseware, as part of the US Airways new aviation training methodology called the Advanced Qualification Program (AQP).

"One of the key benefits of incorporating Rapid into our training program is the dramatic time and cost savings it will provide," says Gary Morrison, Supervisor - AQP Instructional Production at US Airways. "By rearranging the mid- and latter stages of training to non-moving, high fidelity, desktop training, we can actually train more efficiently, effectively, and at a lower cost.

"To be more specific, we are estimating savings of 7 to 12 percent annually from a series of initiatives, including Rapid SIMULATION," Morrison adds. "Considering that our training budgets are in the millions of dollars, that is quite a significant savings."

Student pilots can take home training modules for practice and review at their convenience on their own PCs, as well as use training modules for classroom training.

Rapid SIMULATION 4, is a 32-bit, Windows-based, visual development environment that enables users to create fully functional simulations of interactive systems - in a code-free environment.

In the AQP Rapid simulations can be integrated with most major authoring tools.

The courseware uses Rapid to simulate many systems of the Boeing 737-300/400 jetliner. The simulated systems work exactly like they do on the aircraft; they interrelate to each other and operate as stand-alone systems. - J.M.
