Boeing to integrate missile-defense system

Systems designers at The Boeing Co. in Seattle will be lead systems integrators for the U.S. Department of Defense National Missile Defense program under a 3-year $1.6 billion contract. Working under supervision of the U.S. Ballistic Missile Defense Organization in Arlington, Va., Boeing integrators will develop and tie together the missile-defense system`s ground-based interceptor, ground-based radar, and battle-management system. Boeing experts have experience integrating other large military and aerospace systems, such as the U.S. Air Force Airborne Warning and Control System, and the 777 jetliner integrated avionics suite. The missile-defense system`s battle management component collects and processes information from satellites and radars to provide important information to ground-based interceptors before and after enemy missile launch. - J.K.
