Leaders of Texas Instruments (TI) Inc. are relocating their Military Products Division (MPD) from Midland, Texas, to Sherman, Texas. The move corresponds with the sale of the Texas Instruments semiconductor memory business to Micron Technology of Boise, Idaho, yet is not part of that deal. The move of TI`s Military Products Division to Sherman has begun and will finish by the end of the year, company officials say. Officially, the move is part of a companywide restructuring. TI leaders, in a letter to their customers, say the move in no way reduces the company`s commitment to the military market. "In fact, the move should enable us to improve our current level of support," reads a letter to customers. "In Sherman MPD will remain an independent business unit and will not be consolidated with any commercial business unit." TI officials say the move should be transparent to customers. Midland is in West Texas about 140 miles south of Lubbock. Sherman, meanwhile, is about 60 miles north of Dallas. - J.K.
