Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems engineers at the F-16 Flight and Test Station program in Fort Worth, Texas, needed a configuration management system to save time and reduce costs in developing software for the existing and upcoming F-16 aircraft sold to 18 countries. So they chose the PCMS Dimensions system from SQL Software in Vienna, Va.
The SQL system was process oriented and provided a high degree of traceability in locating the sources of anomalies in the software, says James Carver, staff specialist for design environments at Lockheed. The automation of the SQL system enables test station engineers to instantly access design information and reports compared to the slow paper system used previously, Carver says.
The PCMS Dimensions provides the functions of change management, defect tracking, version control, automatic building, software distribution, process workflow, and incidents management.
The solution will help engineers upgrade the computer systems of older F-16 aircraft installed in Europe. -J.M.
