Experts at Radstone Technology Corp. of Montvale, N.J., are rounding out their line of Power PC single board computers, ranging from commercial grade to industrial grade without extended temperature to fully ruggedized for military programs. All are VME single board computers compatible with the original PPC1 and are based on the PowerPC Reference Platform (Prep) with common firmware and built-in test.

At the top of the line, the PPC2 is reportedly being designed into a torpedo program. It has passed an extended shock test for Level 4, in which the computer successfully withstood half sine shock pulse of 200 G for 5 milliseconds in three axes, two directions per axis; three pluses per direction for a total of 18 pulses; and half sine shock pulse of 400 g for 1 millisecond in one axis, one direction for a total of three shock pulses. These conduction-cooled units are priced at about $15,000.

At the other end, the PPC1A price starts at $4,000, and PPC2A, air cooled and meeting Level 1, is about $1,000 more. These are being designed into less demanding environments, and Radstone officials say shipments have begun with availability eight weeks after receipt of order. - J.R.
