Army tactical missile gets GPS fire control

Sept. 1, 1997
Experts tested an extended-range Army Tactical Missile System, better known as ATACMS, at White Sands Missile Range, N.M., with a global positioning system receiver to improve its accuracy. The ATACMS Block IA has a range almost twice that of the original Block I ATACMS because of reduced volume in the missile`s payload of anti-personnel/anti-materiel bomblets. Manufacturing ATACMS is the Lockheed Martin Vought Systems division in Dallas. - J.K.
