Engineers at ZF Microsystems in Palo Alto, Calif., are offering the AKT/386, a single-board computer designed for rugged, mobile, and embedded transportation applications. Developed together with IBM Argentina, ZF engineers designed the board around the SMX/386 OE Module, the single-device PC that ZF launched in 1996. The ATK/386 integrates the SMX/386 OEM, seven serial ports, two parallel ports, 2.2 megabytes of flash memory, and support for as much as 1.5 megabytes of additional external removable disk storage. The board is designed to cope with vibration, electrical noise, and power fluctuations. - J.M.
