Anvik to build laser system for MCM fab

Engineers at Anvik Corp. in Hawthorne, N.Y., are building a high-throughput laser-via-generation system to produce large-format multichip modules (MCMs), under contract to the MCM-D Consortium. Leaders of the consortium, working together with officials of the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in Arlington, Va., are attempting to advance U.S. capability in electronic packaging and interconnect technology. Industry representatives expect the Anvik laser system to help fabricate MCMs in large volumes for military and commercial applications. Validating the Anvik system will be experts at the Hughes Aircraft Microelectronics Division in Newport Beach, Calif. - J.K.
