WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M., 16 Sept. 2005. U.S. Army officials are issuing billion-dollar contracts to two optoelectronics companies to build image intensifiers and night-vision devices.
Winning the Army contracts are Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. in Garland, Texas, and ITT Industries in Roanoke, Va. The companies are producing Omnibus VII enhanced third-generation image intensifier ground night-vision devices and spare image intensifier tubes.
Northrop Grumman's contract, number W9124Q-05-D-0823, is for $1,8 billion, and ITT's contract, number W9124Q-05-D-0821, is for $1.4 billion.
Northrop Grumman will do the work in Garland, Texas, and Tempe, Ariz., and should be finished by Sept. 30, 2009. ITT will do its work in Roanoke, Va., and should be finished by Sept. 30, 2009.
Awarding the contracts are officials at the Army Contracting Agency at White Sands Missile Range, N.M.
