Army orders extra circuit cards from Raytheon

TEWKSBURY, Mass., 28 Oct. 2005. Raytheon Co. was awarded three U.S. Army contracts with a total value of $18.6 million for spare circuit card assemblies in the PATRIOT Configuration-3 weapons system.

TEWKSBURY, Mass., 28 Oct. 2005. Raytheon Co. was awarded three U.S. Army contracts with a total value of $18.6 million for spare circuit card assemblies in the PATRIOT Configuration-3 weapons system.

Two contracts are valued at $5.6 and $5 million, and the third has a not-to-exceed contract value of $8 million.

"As the system integrator, Raytheon IDS (Integrated Defense Systems) takes pride in the whole life system support to ensure that all PATRIOT Configuration-3 system components provide the warfighter a high quality, reliable and lethal capability to defeat the threats in current and future combat environments," said Phil Cohen, director of Missile and Ground programs, Raytheon IDS.

The PATRIOT air defense system uses guided missiles to engage and destroy air-breathing threats (ABTs) and tactical ballistic missiles (TBMs) in electronic countermeasures and clutter environments. ABTs include fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, cruise missiles, tactical air-to-surface missiles, anti-radiation missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

PATRIOT is part of a layered Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS), alongside the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (Aegis BMD), Theater High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS), Airborne Laser (ABL), and Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS).

The work will be performed at Raytheon IDS' Integrated Air Defense Center in Andover, Mass.
