ROME, N.Y., 28 July 2005. U.S. Air Force Researchers are asking Opticomp Corp. in Zephyr Cove, Nev., to build several prototypes of an optical/electronic network architecture for satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the Global Information Grid.

Opticomp is doing the work under terms of a $12.3 million contract awarded July 27 from the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate in Rome, N.Y. The contract number is FA8750-05-C-0110.

Opticomp experts are to build initial prototype, advanced prototype, experimental prototype and production prototype systems for the Massively Parallel Optical Interconnects program, which is to develop ultra-wide bandwidth, multi-channeled, air and space-based communications networks on and between various platforms.

Work will be finished by July 2009.
