Air Force orders prototype optoelectronic network architectures

ROME, N.Y., 28 July 2005. U.S. Air Force Researchers are asking Opticomp Corp. in Zephyr Cove, Nev., to build several prototypes of an optical/electronic network architecture for satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the Global Information Grid.

ROME, N.Y., 28 July 2005. U.S. Air Force Researchers are asking Opticomp Corp. in Zephyr Cove, Nev., to build several prototypes of an optical/electronic network architecture for satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the Global Information Grid.

Opticomp is doing the work under terms of a $12.3 million contract awarded July 27 from the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate in Rome, N.Y. The contract number is FA8750-05-C-0110.

Opticomp experts are to build initial prototype, advanced prototype, experimental prototype and production prototype systems for the Massively Parallel Optical Interconnects program, which is to develop ultra-wide bandwidth, multi-channeled, air and space-based communications networks on and between various platforms.

Work will be finished by July 2009.
