OTTAWA, Canada, 18 April 2005. EMS Technologies, Inc. is proud to announce its selection as the provider of broadband satellite communication terminals to the U.S. Navy's P-8A multi-mission maritime aircraft (MMA) program.

EMS Technologies' SATCOM Division was chosen by Boeing to furnish the new P-8A Multi-Mission Aircraft (MMA) with the eNfusion Broadband HSD-400 high-speed data terminal, as part of the U.S. Navy's program to replace its aging fleet of P-3 aircraft.

The P-8A is a derivative of the Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft that has been reliably serving airlines around the world for decades. Phases 1 and 2 of the program amount to $1.5 million and will commence in mid-2005 with the System Development and Demonstration (SDD) phase. Equipment deliveries continue through 2009.

The eNfusion HSD-400 terminal is the only IMARSAT-based satellite communications terminal that offers either 4 Swift64 (64kbps) or 2 SwiftBroadband (432kbps) channels in one LRU, and it contains the highest density of channels in an 8 MCU package, EMS says. Designed to meet the rugged environmental requirements of military operations, the HSD-400 combines worldwide access to critical broadband services such as real-time streaming video, voice and data, and Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC).

"We are pleased to have EMS SATCOM as a supplier to the P-8A program," said Tim Norgart, director of P-8A business development at Boeing. "The HSD-400 is a powerful satellite communications platform for multi-mission aircraft, providing the warfighter with aeronautical safety services and real-time broadband connectivity in one component."

"The HSD-400 is the most sophisticated Inmarsat aeronautical terminal available today. It has a software defined architecture that makes it future proof; meeting the needs of the Navy today and over the life of this program." said Stephen Newell, director of military and government sales. "As a single Line Replaceable Unit (LRU), the HSD-400 makes integration, logistics and maintenance much simpler."

"We are delighted that Boeing selected our eNfusion HSD-400, it is another significant win for us." said Dr. Neil Mackay, senior vice-president and general manager, EMS SATCOM. "With more than 400 HSD-128's in the field, most of which are used by the US Military, our solutions are battle tested and proven reliable."
