REDWOOD CITY, Calif., 10 August 2006. The global point to point (PTP) radio market grew by 49.1 percent in unit numbers throughout 2005. This figure represents an increase from the 46.2-percent growth recorded in 2004. These findings are presented in the latest report from EJL Wireless Research, titled "Global Digital PTP Radio Market Analysis and Forecast, 2005-2010."

"The PTP radio market continued to show growth in 2005 and we expect that growth will continue through 2007," says Earl Lum, founder and president of EJL Wireless Research.

The report provides a perspective on the global shipments and demand for digital PTP radio equipment covering all major OEMs, including Alcatel, Ceragon Networks, Ericsson, Harris, Nokia, Nera Networks, SIAE, Siemens, and Stratex Networks.

"Ericsson maintained its top position but its growth rate lagged the overall market in 2005 and the merger between Nokia/Siemens has put the combined company into a solid second position in the market," says Lum.

"The PTP radio market continues to be driven by wireless BTS deployments. With a slowdown in the BTS market on the horizon, demand for PTP radios will decline but new non-mobile applications and higher capacity requirements will buffer the downturn," says Lum.
