SANTA CLARA, Calif., 9 Nov. 2006.Magma Design Automation Inc., a provider of semiconductor design software, has announced that Blast FPGA, Magma's industry-leading synthesis tool for programmable logic, has entered the FPGA synthesis market and is providing support for Altera Corporation's new 65-nanometer Stratix III FPGA family. Early access software is available now from Magma.

Blast FPGA is designed to meet the needs of high-performance, low-power FPGA designs, and can take advantage of Stratix III's FPGA architecture. By building its design flow on top of the FPGA physical design framework, Blast FPGA offers better timing for a majority of designs. This approach not only creates a starting point for placement optimization, but also accelerates timing closure.

"Stratix III devices enable high-end FPGA designers to design with confidence and successfully bring their end systems to market," Danny Biran, vice president of product and corporate marketing at Altera, says. "Our work with Magma benefits our customers by allowing them to meet their specific design requirements through performance optimization and better area utilization when designing with our Stratix III devices."
