ROME, N.Y., 4 Dec. 2010. ITT Corp. (NYSE:ITT) announced that its file inspection application, PuriFile, has been integrated into Tresys Technology's File Sanitization Tool (FiST). Tresys's FiST is the only solution that cleanses the contents of USB thumb drives and optical media, such as compact disks (CD) or digital video discs (DVD), to enable secure use of the devices for mission-critical environments.

ITT's PuriFile software is a file inspection application which performs deep analysis of Microsoft Office file formats, and discovers information within and about files that would otherwise go un-noticed in typical review processes. After PuriFile analyzes the files, it sends its findings to FiST, which in turn cleanses the files by removing and storing (for forensic analysis) malicious hidden content, viruses, and malware from mobile and portable media devices.

USB thumb drives are widely used to share vital information in forward locations, move data between coalition partners, deliver command instructions and situation briefs, and a wide variety of other applications. Recently USB drives have been identified as an attack vector for various forms of advanced viruses and malware that could impact critical systems. As a result their use had been restricted or banned in most defense industry environments. The integration of ITT's PuriFile software with FiST allows for secure USB drive use in operational environments, company officials say.
