BILLERICA, Mass., 15 April 2010. InterSense Inc., maker of precision motion technology, announced a contract with Zygo Corp. to supply the U.S. Air Force with Zygo's field-proven Advanced Helmet-Mounted Tracking Display (AHMD). Currently in use by the U.S. Army for advanced helicopter training, the Air Force placed a new order for Zygo's AHMD to support continued advancement in the quality of its current flight simulator training programs.
Zygo, a worldwide supplier of optical metrology instruments and high precision optical systems, originally developed the AHMD through a partnership with L-3 Communications' Link Simulation & Training division. The AHMD addressed the USAF's need for high-performance flight simulator applications that deliver high visual acuity and field of view in a better-balanced, lightweight head-worn device.
InterSense's patented IS-900 inertial tracking technology delivers precise, low-latency motion tracking data of the pilot's movements in real time, driving the crucial high-end visualization required to deliver a realistic training environment. Additionally, the IS-900 integrates with the Zygo display to enable the lightweight balance necessary to comfortably, effectively train pilots during extended sessions.
