Curtiss-Wright introduces safety-certifiable 3U OpenVPX avionics computing module

The module is designed for use in new aircraft platforms as well as upgrades to existing systems, including digital cockpit, mission computing and autonomous aircraft applications.

ASHBURN, Va. - Curtiss-Wright has introduced the V3-1223, a rugged 3U OpenVPX avionics computing module designed for defense and aerospace applications requiring high-performance processing and support for system certification up to Design Assurance Level A (DAL A).

The V3-1223 features a 14-core Intel Core i7-1376PRE processor and combines computing and graphics capabilities for applications including mission computers, display computers, flight-control systems, sensor fusion, navigation and surveillance, radar and mission computing, and autonomous aircraft.

The module is aligned with the Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) technical standard and is based on Curtiss-Wright's V3-1222 architecture. The V3-1223 adds an XMC expansion site that can accommodate platform-specific capabilities such as avionics interfaces, sensor inputs and storage modules without significantly increasing size, weight and power requirements.

The V3-1223 is intended for systems in which certification requirements must be addressed alongside processing performance and hardware flexibility. Curtiss-Wright says the module is supported by major safety-certifiable aerospace and defense real-time operating system providers and includes the company's COTS safety-certification evidence to support development of certifiable systems.
