PARIS, 23 June 2011. The 2011 Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, France -- probably the biggest aerospace and defense show in the world this year -- is wrapping up today, and French aircraft manufacturer Airbus in Toulouse, France, is claiming its recently introduced fuel-efficient A320neo to be the star of the show. By company count late Thursday afternoon, Airbus had taken orders for 667 A320neos at the Paris Air Show this year, with additional orders still possible before show's end Sunday.
By company count late Thursday afternoon, Airbus had taken orders for 667 A320neo aircraft at the Paris Air Show this year, with additional orders still possible before show's end Sunday. This volume of A320neo orders and commitments at the show more than validated the Airbus decision to launch this enhanced new-engine-option (neo), fuel-efficient, and environmentally friendly version of the company's A320 single-aisle jetliner family, Airbus officials said today. The largest-ever single order ever placed for the Airbus A320 family was announced earlier today by AirAsia, an airline based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, when the airline signed an order for 200 A320neo passenger jets, Airbus officials say. AirAsia is the largest airline customer for Airbus single-aisle aircraft.

Total orders and commitments for the A320neo family have surpassed 1,000 since Airbus launched the new aircraft just six months ago. "I have to admit, I didn’t think it would be such a best-seller in only six months after the launch,” said Tom Enders, president and chief executive officer of Airbus.
