Benefits include reduced design envelope; increased performance; fast development and commissioning; machine cost savings; and advanced features.

RADFORD, Va. – Motion control specialist Kollmorgen in Radford, Va., is introducing the 2G Motion System servo solution for demanding applications like robotics, industrial printing, laser cutting, packaging, inspection and measurement, and machine tools.

Motor and drive are matched in drive switching frequency, commutation algorithms, and motor magnetics to avoid micro-incompatibilities that can occur when engineers select components from various manufacturers.

Key benefits include reduced design envelope; increased dynamic performance; fast development and commissioning; machine cost savings; and advanced features.

The AKM2G servo enables designers to decrease the size, complexity, and footprint of the machine, while still getting the power and performance their application needs. It includes SafeMotion options, expandable I/O, and dual-axis models, all without increasing drive size.

The device also can reduce indexing and move and settle times by delivering increased torque and power in the same size or smaller package.

The motion control system optimizes performance in every system configuration, saving machine engineers the time and effort of evaluating various vendors and component combinations.

The single-cable design, dual-axis drives, and co-engineered options reduce material and machine assembly costs. Improved motor and drive efficiencies reduce energy consumption.

Features include Kollmorgen Servo on a Chip; SafeMotion monitor; WorkBench GUI; extended I/O variant; feedback options; single- and dual-cable options; shaft, mounting, and connector options; and holding brake option.
