The CoolMOS S7T MOSFET has an integrated temperature sensor to improve the accuracy of junction temperature sensing in power electronics applications.

MUNICH – Infineon Technologies AG in Munich is introducing the CoolMOS S7T metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) family for high-performance and high-reliability solid-state relay applications.

The CoolMOS S7T MOSFET has an integrated temperature sensor to improve the accuracy of junction temperature sensing in power electronics applications. Since solid-state relays are fundamental components in some electronic devices, systems designers can benefit from a superjunction MOSFET with an integrated temperature sensor in the same package.

The MOSFET operates reliably even under overload conditions. The integrated temperature sensor provides as much as 40 percent greater accuracy and 10 times faster response time than a standard independent on-board sensor located at the drain. The device's monitoring can operate individually within a multi-device system for improved reliability.

Compared to electromechanical relays, the total power dissipation can improve as much as two times, while current solid state triac solutions are more than five times less efficient. Improved efficiency and the ability to handle higher loads help in reducing power consumption and energy costs.
