OceanServer Technology Inc. of Fall River, Mass., is introducing a battery and power system that lets designers add smart, rechargeable lithium-ion battery backup power to electronic and electromechanical equipment. The Intelligent Battery and Power System serves as a AC-DC power supply to provide regulated DC power from lithium-ion battery packs, an AC wall outlet, or any external DC source including solar- and wind power. Taking over if the external power is interrupted, it recharges automatically when the power is restored and provides status feedback such as charge and discharge rate, time to empty, and number of active batteries. The system enables designers to speed development of integrating as much as 48 volts DC of battery power into an OEM product. A variety of battery management modules and DC converters are available to manage as many as eight packs each, to provide as much as 760 watt-hours of high-density lithium-ion power.
