Smart Energy Solutions in Pompton Plains, N.J., is set to introduce advanced battery systems for military use that are designed to safeguard military power systems and prolong battery life. “Our original Battery Brain underwent an extensive evaluation process with the Army on its Stryker vehicle group, and from that we know we can enhance the effectiveness of the military fleets,” says Pete Mateja, chief executive officer of Smart Energy Solutions. “Recognizing the unique needs of Army vehicles, we have designed and will unveil an advanced-generation Battery Brain that will prolong the life of the batteries particularly in areas like Iraq and Afghanistan,” Mateja says. Although the military will get the first applications of the system, company officials plan to make it commercially available to automotive applications-particularly for passenger cars, as well as light- and heavy-duty trucks. Battery Brain is Smart Energy’s flagship device that constantly monitors electrical discharge of the battery for a wide variety of land vehicles and boats. Should Battery Brain detect that the battery is losing sufficient charge to start the vehicle’s engine, the device automatically disconnects the battery to preserve its starting power.
