Linear Technology offers 16-bit digital-to-analog converter with software-programmable output ranges

Linear Technology Corp. in Milpitas, Calif., is introducing the LTC2704-16, a 16-bit, quad voltage-output digital-to-analog converter with six software-programmable output voltage ranges for industrial and process control applications, instrumentation, and automatic test equipment.

Each of the four digital-to-analog converters can be programmed via a 3-wire SPI-compatible serial interface for one of four bipolar output ranges -- plus-or-minus 10, 5, and 3.5 volts, as well as -2.5 to 7.5 volts. The LTC2704-16 offers DC performance of ±2LSB(max) INL and ±1LSB(max) DNL.

The LTC2704-16 operates from dual ±5 to ±15 volts analog supplies, and a 3 to 5 volts digital supply. The digital-to-analog converter's software-programmable SoftSpan output ranges and serial readback of all internal registers.

The LTC2704-16 offers a reference input for each pair of digital-to-analog converters. These reference input voltages are inverted internally and can be driven to 7.25 volts, producing output swings up to ±14.5 volts.

The LTC2704-16's output buffers swing to within 500 millivolts of each power supply rail without any degradation in accuracy. The output buffers deliver accurate 10 volts outputs on 12 volts at 10 percent industrial supplies.
