ITG Electronics introduces custom transformers for USB PD 3.1 extended power range designs
ELMSFORD, N.Y. - ITG Electronics in Elmsford, N.Y., has introduced a line of custom transformers for USB Power Delivery (PD) 3.1 applications, designed to support higher power levels, compact form factors, and improved efficiency in modern electronic systems.
The designs support Extended Power Range (EPR) under the USB PD 3.1 specification, enabling power delivery up to 240W at 48V and 5A, compared with the 100W ceiling of earlier PD 3.0 implementations. The higher power capability is intended for applications such as high-performance laptops, gaming systems, displays, servers, and power tools.
USB PD 3.1 adds fixed-voltage levels of 28V, 36V, and 48V, along with adjustable-voltage supply (AVS) operation. ITG’s transformer designs are engineered to handle these higher voltages while maintaining efficiency, insulation performance, and thermal stability. The solutions remain backward compatible with USB PD 3.0 and PD 2.0 systems.
The portfolio includes several configurations to address power density and mechanical constraints. The T101674A-004 is a 140W low-profile transformer with a 16 mm height for space-constrained designs. The T201691B-005 provides a 65W option in a 13 mm profile. The T201724A-01 offers a vertically mounted configuration within a 27.5 by 16 mm footprint, supporting up to 140W.
The transformers are intended for use in AC-to-DC switching power supplies and USB-C power delivery systems requiring higher power throughput and compact packaging.
