PowerSight adds remote monitoring for military power studies
PLEASANT HILL, Calif. - Summit Technology has introduced PowerSight Remote Monitoring, a system that combines PowerSight electric power analyzers, the G2000 Remote Monitoring Gateway, and PS-Cloud software to provide remote access to power-study data and analyzer status.
The G2000 connects PowerSight analyzers to PS-Cloud through Bluetooth and cellular communications, allowing users to monitor equipment remotely without relying on a facility's local-area network. The gateway can support up to 10 analyzers, although Bluetooth range can reduce the practical number of connected instruments. The gateway also automatically selects an available cellular carrier when it powers up.
The architecture lets an analyzer remain inside or near an electrical panel while the G2000 sits where cellular reception is strongest. Summit says the approach can reduce site visits during extended power-quality, load, and energy studies by allowing personnel to monitor analyzer operation and identify interrupted studies remotely.
PS-Cloud provides remote access to measurements and equipment status, while data files can be retrieved for analysis and report generation using PowerSight PSM-A software. The system also provides configurable communications and operational alarms, including notifications when connectivity is interrupted, monitoring starts or stops, or an analyzer switches to backup battery power.
Summit says it plans additional power-quality alarms for conditions including voltage sags, swells, transients, and excessive current inrush.
For military services, the system supports power studies across distributed facilities and infrastructure while reducing the need for technicians to repeatedly access electrical equipment. PowerSight offers its analyzers for purchase or rental, allowing the remote-monitoring system to scale from individual studies to larger monitoring programs.
