High-temperature, extended-life capacitors for engine control and oil drilling introduced by AVX
FOUNTAIN INN, S.C., 2 April 2015. AVX Corp. in Fountain Inn, S.C., is introducing an extended-life version of the company's THH 230-degree Celsius hermetic series high temperature SMD tantalum capacitors for extremely high-temperature applications like jet engine control and down-hole oil drilling.
The THH power electronics devices now last for 10,000 hours at 200 C and 50 percent derating. Available in two large case sizes (9/CTC-21D and I) that provide high capacitance values spanning 22 microfarads to 100 microfarads, THH series capacitors operate in temperatures from -55 to 230 C for 9/CTC-21D case components and -55 to 215 C for I case components.
Encased in hermetically sealed ceramic packages, THH series capacitors also exhibit stability when exposed to high temperatures, high humidity, and ambient atmosphere, and are impervious to the capacitance drop common to high temperature operation.
The THH capacitors are rated for 47 microfarads at 63 volts and 100 microfarads at 35 volts. They are available in 9/CTC-21D cases with gold-plated undertab, gold plated L-shape J-lead, and nickel-plated J-flex J-lead terminations.

Capacitors at 6.8 microfarads at 35 volts, 10 microfarads at 35 volts, 22 microfarads at 16 volts, and 47 microfarads at 16 volts in I cases are available as engineering samples, and 25 more codes in both case sizes are under development.
