NEW YORK, 29 April 2007.EDO Corporation has been selected by Lockheed Martin to provide the ALR-95 tactical radar Electronic Support Measures (ESM) and surveillance system for seven P-3C aircraft. The contract is valued at more than $8 million with deliveries beginning in mid-2008.
As prime contractor to the U.S. Navy's Naval Air Systems Command, Lockheed Martin is the mission system integrator for upgrading the P-3C aircraft's mission avionics.
The ALR-95 is a maritime-patrol ESM system that enhances the aircraft's survivability by detecting, identifying, and locating hostile radar signals early. With this information, the aircrew is able to react to the threat.
The P-3C Orion is a maneuverable aircraft primarily designed for reconnaissance, anti-submarine, and anti-surface vessel operations. It has proven to be effective in its maritime patrol mission, including combating the complex challenges of the war on terrorism, arms smuggling, and drug trafficking at sea.
