HARRISBURG, Pa. – TE Connectivity in Harrisburg, Pa., is introducing the DEUTSCH autosport hermetic fuel tank connector range for very high-risk applications like fuel and pressure systems.

The connectors come with an aluminum shell designed to go into the wall of a fuel cell with a glass seal to stop any fuel escaping up the wiring loom. It replaces standard stainless steel materials with aluminum to achieve a 60 percent weight savings.

"The safety element of the hermetic connector means there is no margin for error, and the new method developed by TE allows the use of aluminum in this critical safety area, bringing large weight savings without compromising the seal," says Paul Webb, autosport global product manager at TE Connectivity.

The DEUTSCH autosport hermetic fuel tank connector was designed originally for the professional auto racing industry. "Complex fuel systems on today's racing vehicles require many inputs into the fuel cell, whether it be for the lift pumps or sensors," Webb says.
