NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Samtec Inc. in New Albany, Ind., is introducing RF edge launch connectors for high-frequency test and measurement applications, high-speed digital component test, and evaluation boards.

These RF edge launch connectors offer a narrow body design that is 33 percent smaller than traditional edge launch connectors, company officials say.

The 185-EL series connectors operate at frequencies of DC to 67 GHz; the 240-EL series connectors operate at DC to 50 GHz; and the 292-EL series operate at DC to 40 GHz. Interface types include 1.85, 2.40, and 2.92 millimeters.

The RF edge launch connectors are installed on the edge of the board to ease aligning the launch pin with the circuit trace, which also helps to ensure proper ground alignment for preventing RF leakage.

Samtec's RF edge launch connectors for test and measurement use compression instead of solder to mount the printed circuit board. Alignment and the removal can increase signal integrity.

The 185-EL, 240-EL, and 292-EL series connectors are reusable and field replaceable, and offer as many as 500 mating cycles. Samtec's RF edge launch connectors are easy to install and do not cause damage to a printed circuit board.
