VIAVI adds TETRA radio testing capability to CX300 communications monitor

The software-keyed upgrade enables testing of TETRA mobile stations, including transmitter parametric measurements, call processing and receiver bit error rate (BER) and modulation error rate (MER) loopback testing.

CHANDLER, Ariz. - VIAVI Solutions in Chandler, Ariz., has introduced a TETRA mobile station (MS) radio base station simulator option for its CX300 communications service monitor, enabling technicians to test TETRA radios without placing devices into T1 test mode.

The software-keyed upgrade enables testing of TETRA mobile stations, including transmitter parametric measurements, call processing, and receiver bit-error rate (BER) and modulation-error rate (MER) loopback testing. The option does not require additional hardware and is available for existing CX300 users.

TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) is an open digital trunked radio standard developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) for mission-critical voice and data communications. The technology has been adopted by emergency services, government organizations, and transportation operators because of features such as encrypted communications, group push-to-talk calling, and direct device-to-device communications via Direct Mode Operation (DMO).

The CX300 TETRA MS option allows technicians to test radios while operating in a manner closer to field conditions by enabling the mobile station to register with a simulated base station rather than requiring a specialized test mode.

The upgrade supports transmitter measurements including RF power, power profile, carrier frequency offset, burst timing and modulation accuracy. It also supports call processing tests and receiver BER/MER loopback measurements, according to VIAVI.

The CX300 communications service monitor supports testing for several land mobile radio (LMR) and professional mobile radio (PMR) protocols, including TETRA, P25, DMR and NXDN. The platform also includes spectrum analysis, signal generation and analysis, cable and antenna analysis, two-port vector network analysis, power measurement, audio analysis and automated alignment capabilities.
