Optical Zonu introduces miniature Ku-band RF-over-fiber transmitter
VAN NUYS, Calif. - Optical Zonu Corp. introduced the Miniature Ku-Band RFoF Transmitter, an OEM module designed to transport high-frequency RF signals over optical fiber in space-constrained defense and aerospace systems.
The transmitter measures approximately 2.25 by 1 inch and is designed for integration into phased-array antennas, SATCOM terminals, radar systems, and other RF systems where conventional coaxial cabling can present size, weight, or signal-loss challenges.
The module converts RF signals for transport over fiber at frequencies up to 18 GHz and supports 1310- and 1550-nanometer optical wavelengths. It also supports dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) configurations for transporting multiple RF streams over a single fiber.
The fiber-pigtailed transmitter operates from -20 to 65 degrees Celsius with fixed gain, with extended-temperature options available. Optical Zonu says the module provides high spur-free dynamic range and low-noise optical transmission.
Potential applications include phased-array radar, Common Data Link systems, shipboard and submarine communications, SATCOM terminals, electronic warfare systems, and large uncrewed aircraft.
The transmitter is designed to operate with industry-standard RF-over-fiber receivers, although Optical Zonu recommends pairing it with an Optical Zonu receiver for end-to-end performance.
The Miniature Ku-Band RFoF Transmitter is available now and can be customized for specialized optical wavelengths, environmental requirements, and system configurations.
