MatSing develops large-format Luneburg lens antennas for satellite communications
IRVINE, Calif. - MatSing has developed a manufacturing technology for large-format Luneburg lens antennas designed for wideband, multibeam satellite communications, radar, sensing, and other RF applications.
The technology enables production of dielectric Luneburg lenses with apertures exceeding 50 wavelengths while maintaining controlled permittivity and dimensional tolerances needed for high-frequency RF performance. Luneburg lenses use a graded dielectric structure to focus electromagnetic energy and can support multiple beams across different directions and frequencies.
MatSing's platform covers lens apertures from 0.5 to 2.4 meters and operating frequencies from 1 to 30 GHz, spanning L through Ka band. The company says configurations can provide more than 40 dBi of gain at the upper end of each configuration's operating range.
Example configurations include a 1.2-meter-diameter lens covering 1 to 18 GHz, a 2.4-meter lens covering 1 to 12 GHz, and a 0.5-meter lens covering 12 to 30 GHz. Applications include multi-satellite gateway antennas, LEO, MEO, and GEO communications, satellite teleports, passive RF sensing, multifunction radar, radio astronomy, deep-space communications, and mobile SATCOM.
The large-format lenses are intended for integration into MatSing's LensSAT satellite antennas, with custom frequency ranges, aperture sizes, and system configurations available.
