Rohde & Schwarz unveils automated ASA Motion Link test solution for automotive engineers

MUNICH - Rohde & Schwarz in Munich has expanded its in-vehicle network test portfolio with a new ASA Motion Link (ASA-ML) compliance solution to validate high-speed automotive SerDes links used in advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous driving architectures.

The new capability is delivered through the R&S SPLUS-K105 option in the company’s ScopeSuite+ software and runs on the R&S RTP oscilloscope platform. It provides automated, standards-based electrical compliance testing for ASA Motion Link interfaces developed under the Automotive SerDes Alliance framework.

ASA-ML is an asymmetric SerDes architecture designed to transport high-bandwidth sensor and display data in automotive systems. It is optimized for use cases including high-resolution camera, lidar, and radar data streaming into electronic control units, as well as high-definition display output. The standard supports data rates of up to 16 Gbps per lane and is positioned to meet the bandwidth demands of Level 3 and higher autonomous driving systems.

The SPLUS-K105 software option provides guided, step-by-step compliance testing through a wizard-based interface and supports all defined speed grades (SG1 through SG5). It enables automated control of oscilloscopes and compatible vector network analyzers, including the R&S ZNB3000 Vector Network Analyzer, for return-loss measurements alongside time-domain and signal-integrity analysis.

By combining oscilloscope capture, VNA-based RF measurements, and automated compliance workflows, the platform is intended to support PHY, ECU, cable, and connector validation. The focus is on repeatable measurements, interoperability, and assurance of signal integrity in increasingly complex, multi-vendor automotive Ethernet and SerDes ecosystems.
