State Department security service chooses near-infrared laser weapon sight from B.E. Meyers

REDMOND, Wash. – Officials of the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service, the federal law enforcement and security arm of the U.S. Department of State, needed near-infrared weapon-mounted aiming and illumination lasers. They found their solution from tactical lasers specialist B.E. Meyers & Co. Inc. in Redmond, Wash.

B.E. Meyers officials are providing the company's MAWL-DA to the Diplomatic Security Service as the organization's primary near-infrared weapon-mounted aiming and illumination laser.

The MAWL-DA is a high-power infrared and visible green aiming and illumination laser for individual carbine weapons. The system offers improved ergonomics, interface, and performance, and is designed to meet the evolved needs of the modern night fighter.

Meyers has more than 3,600 MAWL-DA units under contract with the Diplomatic Security Service, with deliveries in progress. The MAWL-DA includes the EC2 end cap, and a AA battery adapter for dual-power options in support of Defense Security Service requirements.

The MAWL-DA is designed to address space and ergonomics shortcomings of lasers on short carbines like the U.S. Special Operations Command MK18 rifle. The laser weapon sight mounts offset from the weapon rail to minimize impact on the user's hand, and on his or her optic field-of-view.

The MAWL-DA eliminates granular illuminator adjustment and complex multi-position switches and instead consolidates these choices into the sight's settings choices, B.E. Meyers officials say.

It enables users to choose close-range, mid-range, and long-range shooting, with the power and divergences appropriate for each. The MAWL-DA is a modular system. The body, tailcap, and head are separate, interchangeable components.
