Engineers at Northwest Power Integrators in Milwaukee, Ore., needed a versatile AC-DC module that met MIL-STD requirements for a classified military application. The MI-AIM module from Vicor Corp. in Andover, Mass., met their needs.
The Vicor module is small in size and meets all the input voltage specs, says Pabisz Wojciech, president of Northwest Power Integrators. "It has all the necessary features built in."
The AC input module interfaces directly with AC mains to provide line rectification, EMI filtering, transient protection, and inrush limiting in electronic power systems designed for defense applications. Measuring 2.28 by 2.4 by 0.5 inches, the front end modules operate from 115 Vac and provide 250 watts of output power with 95 percent efficiency. They are compatible with Vicor MI-x7x family DC-DC converter modules with an input range of 100 to 310 volts.
The MI-AIM module meets CE102 conducted emissions requirements of MIL-STD-461D and the transient and spike requirements of MIL-STD-704A. Produced under a system approved to MIL-I-45208 in ISO-9001 registered facilities, the epoxy encapsulated modules meet the environmental test requirements of MIL-STD-810D. - J.M.
