PHOENIX, 23 Oct. 2006. White Electronic Designs Corp. in Phoenix is on a path to produce radiation-hardened solid-state memory chips and other semiconductor devices according to the guidelines of MIL-PRF-38534 Class K certification.

Hybrid microcircuits and multichip modules such as those that White manufacturers are for space flight hardware to save size and weight. MIL-PRF-38534 enables device manufacturers the flexibility to use best commercial practices while providing products that meet military and aerospace needs.

Class K is the highest reliability level of MIL-PRF-38534 and is for space applications. MIL-PRF-38534 and its companion standard, MIL-PRF-38535 are administered by the U.S. Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) in Columbus, Ohio, the logistics center and manager for military specifications for electronic parts.

MIL-PRF-38534 is based on a Qualified Manufacturer List (QML) approach that emphasizes capability and consistency of manufacturing processes and materials, as well as and a carefully defined test flow.

Meeting the standard likely will result in parts that can withstand rigorous environmental stresses and is electrically stable with long-term use.
