Marine Corps orders Harris Falcon III AN/PRC-117G radio systems

MELBOURNE, Fla., 30 July 2011. Marine Corps officials placed an order with Harris Corp. (NYSE:HRS) for $35 million worth of the company's Falcon III AN/PRC-117G wideband manpack tactical radio systems, remote controls, other accessories, and field support. The AN/PRC-117G provides real-time information via a man-portable software-defined radio with reduced size and weight.
The AN/PRC-117G give Marines advanced communication capabilities for interoperable voice and wideband networking on the battlefield.
The radio system enables mobile ad-hoc wideband networking on the battlefield for voice and high-bandwidth data communications such as collaborative chat, streaming video, and other applications.
In addition to the radios, the Marines also are acquiring RF-7800R remote controls, which provide remote control capability for the Falcon II and Falcon III product lines, including the AN/PRC-117G and AN/PRC-152. The RF-7800R remote controls provide support for voice and networked data applications.
Harris developed the AN/PRC-117G wideband radio following the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) program Enterprise Business Model (EBM).
The Falcon III AN/PRC-117G is a wideband manpack radio system with a JTRS-certified Software Communications Architecture and NSA Type-1 certified information security.
