NASA announces trio of university teams selected for flight research project
WASHINGTON - NASA has selected three university teams to help solve 21st century aviation challenges that could transform the skies above our communities.
As part of NASA’s University Leadership Initiative (ULI), both graduate and undergraduate students on faculty-led university teams will contribute directly to real-world flight research while gaining hands-on experience working with partners from other universities and industry, John Gould writes for NASA.

12 March 2025 -The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) selected the Florida Institute of Technology, the University of Colorado, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for these projects. Each lead university is joined by partner teammates from higher education, non-profits, and businesses.
The research topics include focus new aviation systems, communications, and autonomous flight, John Gould writes for NASA.
“By combining faculty expertise, student innovation, and industry experience, these three teams will advance NASA’s vision for the future of 21st century aviation,” said Koushik Datta, NASA University Innovation project manager at the Agency’s Ames Research Center in California.
