7 April 2021 -- When it comes to drones, though, bigger isn't always better. Maneuverability and concealability are two important qualities of a surveillance drone that don't improve with size.
FLIR Systems in Hvalstad, Norway, might have solved all of these problems, though, with the miniature Black Hornet Nano helicopter drone -- a bug-sized UAV that weighs in at about half an ounce with a size slightly less than four inches long.
The Black Hornet Nano is unparalleled in personal aerial surveillance. Able to lift out of a soldier's hand, it can work its way through tight spaces like hallways, to enable the infantry warfighter to deploy a UAV in exactly where it's needed.
